THE EDUCATIONAL FARMS
OF THE COOPERATIVE SLOWLY
AND OF THE GARDEN OF CASA BETANIA
The "Slowly" cooperative, the "Solidarity" cooperative and the "Gramigna" association offer workshops
didactic for schools and groups, in order to spread peasant traditions, agricultural innovations, knowledge of
territory and civic awareness.
The educational offer consists of:
• laboratories at school, which offer the double advantage of containing costs and none
organizational commitment on the part of the school;
• workshops on farms, which bring children closer to nature, through paths studied within the
“Casaldianni Experimental Farm” (Circello) or at the “Orto di Casa Betania“ (Benevento);
• workshops for events in the square, which offer playful-educational moments on the theme of nature and traditions,
through practical work, within a collective experience.
THE TEACHING METHODOLOGY
The methodology adopted in all laboratories is that of learning from experience
(Learning by doing) through "non-formal" teaching processes. This is the tool
practice which we use to achieve the training objectives we have set for ourselves.
Learning is not only related to experience, but also to what we do with it
certain experience. It needs to be translated into a learning experience as well
its value dosed in different ways. The cycle shifts from acting to reflecting on what happened,
to the generalizing and conceptualizing the experience and applying the new knowledge to act
another time.
THE LOCATIONS OF THE WORKSHOPS
Casaldianni Farm (C.da Casaldianni, Circello): the Casaldianni farm, first fief and then simple property of the Di Somma family until 1951, is now owned by the Rummo Hospital and is managed by the Province of Benevento.
The company has an extension of 310 hectares and is located in a naturalistically valuable area that includes woods, pastures, olive groves and rural buildings.
Orto di Casa Betania (Via Marco da Benevento, crossroads of via Meomartini, Benevento): agricultural space managed by the cooperative “La Solidarity”, located in the urban context and dedicated to social agriculture projects for the benefit of disadvantaged people. The space includes a greenhouse, open-field vegetable gardens, play areas and a bar with a multipurpose room.
It is possible to organize the same workshops at the school premises. It is also possible to develop annual workshops that allow a more formative didactic experience.
