The didactic textile and dyeing laboratory 

The art of the weaver and the dyer brings together with the practical act a transversal knowledge that embraces processes of spinning, weaving, up to the chemical structure of fibers and dyes: science and creativity that become art.

The fabric as a story of the territory, as an artisan practice handed down over the centuries and as a revaluation of these arts to the present day.

Educational objectives of the laboratory

The didactic laboratory will be created to develop the theoretical and practical knowledge of natural fibers, of the weaves that form the basis for creating a fabric and for the identification of dyeing plants. 

The practical moments will be carried out with  playful-recreational methodologies to encourage the active participation of students.

Learning by doing and developing an ethical conscience in the purchase of textile products.

Introductions to textile fibers with introductions to thematic panels (fibers, weaves and dyes)

Let's play with fabrics: recognition of fabrics through sensory experience

The fabrics of our grandparents: hemp, linen and wool

We recognize wool: carded and combed wool

Using the horizontal hand loom

The dyer's corner: interactive demonstration of the etching and dyeing phases of fabrics 

Let's learn how to color with nature

Practical information

Number of schoolchildren who can be welcomed daily: about 50 (two classes) both in Casaldianni and in the Garden of Casa Betania.

How to  involves the company in case of bad weather: possibility of welcoming schoolchildren in covered spaces 

How to use the meal: packed lunch or lunch at the farmhouse "La Fattoria" (to be agreed with the owners of the farmhouse)
